UNC Athletics
Kenan Memorial Stadium
Stadium Dr (UNC); Chapel Hill; (919) 966-2575. Open for regularly scheduled games and events, and by appointment. One of the most beautiful grass-turf sports venues in the nation, where Tar Heel football teams have played since 1927. Having undergone several major additions over the years, the stadium now seats 60,000. Cost varies by event.
Dean E. Smith Center
Skipper Bowles Dr (UNC); Chapel Hill; (919) 962-7777. Open Mon.-Fri., 8am-5pm, and for special events. Opened in January 1986, this is the third largest on-campus arena in the country, with a seating capacity of 21,750 for basketball games and 21,500 for concerts. The facility also houses the offices of the UNC Athletics Department. Cost varies by event. Parking.

Museums
Ackland Art Museum
Phone (919) 966-5736. South Columbia St, off Franklin St (UNC); Chapel Hill. Open Wed.-Sat., 10am-5pm; Sun., 1-5pm; closed Mon.-Tue. and major holidays. The collection of 15,000 objects broadly covers the history of European painting and sculpture, including masters such as Rubens, Delacroix, Degas and Pissarro. It's also particularly strong in Asian art and works on paper, with some traditional North Carolina pottery and folk art. Free (suggested donation, $3).
Kenan Football Center
Phone (919) 966-2575. South Road at Stadium Drive (UNC); Chapel Hill. Open Mon.-Fri., 8am-5pm; certain Sats; closed major holidays and Bowl-game day. Also open on home-game days for three hours up to 30 minutes before kickoff. Officially called the Kenan Football Center and Charles Justice Hall of Honors, the museum features the Heavner Theater for football archives, display cases of historical artifacts, memorabilia, interactive kiosks, multi-media presentations and vintage photographs.
Charles Kuralt Learning Center
Phone (919) 962-1204. In Carroll Hall, South Columbia St and East Cameron Ave (UNC); Chapel Hill. Open Tue. & Thu., 1-4pm; other times by appointment. Contents of Kuralt's three-room penthouse office suite in Manhattan were donated to the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communications by his widow Suzanna after her death in 1999. The center includes his office with Oriental rugs, his desk, floor-to-ceiling mahogany bookshelves and library, paneled walls, a brick fireplace, his program tapes and many awards.
The Memorabilia Room
Phone (919) 962-6000. In the Dean E. Smith Center; Skipper Bowles Dr (UNC); Chapel Hill. Open Mon.-Fri., 8am-5pm. Located on the second level of the Center, this 3000-sq.ft. facility contains artifacts and highlight tapes of some of the greatest moments in the University's rich sports history, primarily basketball. (The exhibits were designed by Jerry Goodman, designer of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.)

Planetarium
Morehead Planetarium and Science Center

The first such facility in the south, Morehead Planetarium has been teaching space sciences education since 1950 (including NASA astronauts). It features public shows in the 68-ft. domed Star Theater (with its world-class Zeiss Model VI projector), educational exhibits, Infinity gift shop and sundial rose garden outside. Gift shop. Parking (limited). Snacks and beverages. Star Theater shows: Adults, $4.50; students, children and senior citizens, $3.50. Call for shows and times.
