17th Annual Carolina Inn “Twelve Days of Christmas”

Celebration on Tap Dec. 1- Jan. 2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (November 2014) – Now in its 17th year, The Carolina Inn, A Destination Hotel, will once again celebrate the Christmas season with enchanting decorations inspired by the traditional holiday song, The Twelve Days of Christmas. A vision of seasonal wonder will be displayed throughout the Inn including amazing gingerbread houses, magnificently decorated trees, beautifully appointed holiday décor, and events to keep children and adults of all ages entertained.
The celebration features a festive blend of many long-time and newer favorites like the 12th Annual Gingerbread Village Display and Competition, Breakfast and Brunch with Santa, Horse Drawn Carriage Rides, Holiday Afternoon Teas, Sugar Plum Fairy Tea Party, children’s etiquette luncheon with author Cecilia Budd Grimes, Christmas and New Year’s Eve dinners, Christmas Day brunches and New Year’s hotel packages.

Special Events

  • Holiday Afternoon Tea, Dec. 1-31 except Christmas Day from 2-5 pm. Enjoy our festive holiday decorations and music while the Inn’s staff serves delightful teas in vintage china cups and saucers along with an array of savory tea sandwiches and delectable sweets. Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance by calling 919-918-2735.
  • Gingerbread Village Display, Dec. 1- Jan. 2. Relish the festive display of the 12th Annual Gingerbread House Competition entries. Contestants will showcase their creativity and imagination with their edible masterpieces this holiday season. The winners selected by Pasty Chef Sara Thomas will be announced on Dec. 23 at 4 p.m.
  • Santa’s Workshop, Dec. 7, 2-3:30 pm. Join Santa and his elves in his Christmas toy workshop. Create, build, decorate, and name your very own Teddy Bear. This furry friend will be a lifelong companion and a precious Christmas memory for each child. Holiday treats provided and ideal for ages 5-10. $40. Reservations required.
  • Breakfast/Brunch with Santa, Dec. 13, 14, 20, 21, 23, 24. Santa is coming to The Carolina Inn. A festive Carolina Inn Christmas breakfast/brunch will undoubtedly usher in the holiday magic for young and old alike. Magicians and face painters will be on hand to entertain everyone. Each child is welcome to sit on Santa’s lap and share their Christmas wish list. Every child will leave with a holiday treat. Breakfast 8:30-10:30 am, $30 per person. Brunch 10:30 am-12:30 pm, $40 per person. Reservations required.
  • Sugar Plum Fairy Tea Party, Dec. 14, 2 pm/4 pm. Join the Triangle Youth Ballet for its annual Sugar Plum Fairy Tea. Ballerinas will dance as you sample treats from the land of sweets. Enjoy Nutcracker story time. See a magic show and get your picture taken with the Sugar Plum Fairy. It’s the perfect holiday gathering. $25. Reservations required.
  • Free string ensemble concert by students of Suzuki Academy of North Carolina, Dec. 14, 2:30 pm.
  • Nine Ladies Tapping, Dec. 16, 7 pm. A free performance by Footnotes Tap Ensemble, a professional tap company based in Durham.
  • Children’s Etiquette Luncheon, Dec. 22, 11:30 am-1:30 pm. A five-course dining tutorial taught by certified etiquette and protocol professional, Cecilia Budd Grimes. Children 8-12 will learn dining do’s and don’ts. Each child will receive a certificate and The Little Book of Etiquette at the graduation ceremony following lunch. Sunday dress code applies; jackets for boys (ties not required). $45. Reservations required.
  • Make Your Own Gingerbread House, Dec, 22/23, 2 pm. Join us for a cozy afternoon that begins with storyteller Heidi Werner and her tales of Christmas magic. Each child will then be able to assemble and decorate their very own Gingerbread House complete with an apron, chef’s hat and all the holiday sweets and goodies that their imaginations can hold. At the end of the class, each child will take home a completed Gingerbread House and accessories. $45. Reservations required.
