CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (June 7, 2012) – In honor of Independence Day, a sparkling package is available during the entire month of July at The Carolina Inn.

Take advantage of the historic hotel’s Stars & Stripes package and enjoy all the fixings of a relaxing getaway. The patriotic package features accommodations for two, $75 gas credit, $75 credit in Carolina Crossroads Restaurant and Bar, complimentary glass of wine or beer at check-in and complimentary valet parking

This package is based on availability with rates starting as low as $292 per night and can be booked at 800.962.8519.

If planning a weekend getaway, The Carolina Inn’s popular end-of-the-workweek celebration called Fridays on the Front Porch (FOFP) is in full swing for its 10th season.

Live music creates the perfect atmosphere for kicking back, relaxing and getting a jump on the weekend as FOFP features some of North Carolina’s best bands for 25 consecutive Fridays through mid-October. The July lineup features Mel Melton & The Wicked Mojo (July 6), Big Fat Gap (July 13/20) and Franklin Street Band with Mick Mixon (July 27).

Just a few blocks away from the hotel, you can stroll down Franklin Street where you’ll find the arts collective FRANK and the new Ackland Art Museum Store. These art shops are part of the popular 2nd Friday ArtWalk featuring entertainment and cultural treasures.

The Preservation Society of Chapel Hill provides guided tours the 2nd Sunday at 2 pm from the Horace Williams House. Learn the folklore that is Chapel Hill, the home to the nation’s first public university, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. You can also tour the campus as part of a guided or self-guided tour. Here you can stop at the Morehead Planetarium & Science Center, and check out a super-high-definition star show.

Of course, this is basketball land so you’ll want to tour the 8,000 square foot interactive Carolina Basketball Museum on the UNC Campus. And try to spend some time at the North Carolina Botanical Garden, the largest natural botanical garden in the southeast. The venus flytraps are always popular with the children.

Built on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill in 1924 by John Sprunt Hill – distinguished alumnus, successful businessman and University trustee – The Carolina Inn’s original concept was “to provide for the special wants and comforts of the University alumni...and University visitors.” The historical Carolina Inn features 185 charming and well-appointed guestrooms including 7 luxury suites.
