The Carolina Inn’s Carolina Crossroads Restaurant Celebrates 90th Anniversary with Commemorative Chefs’ Dinner on February 28

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (February 2015) – The Carolina Inn, A Destination Hotel that opened in 1924, announces that its award-winning Carolina Crossroads Restaurant is hosting a 90th Anniversary Commemorative Chefs’ Dinner on Saturday, February 28.

A four-course wine-pairing dinner will celebrate the cuisine of its executive chefs through the years including Brian Stapleton, Jimmy Reale and current Executive Chef James Clark. There will also be live music serenading guests throughout the evening.

The first course features Sea Salt & Sorghum Brined Shrimp served with Celery Root Black Truffle Puree and Chervil Ruby Red Grapefruit Salad, followed by Braised North Carolina Bison Short Rib Ragout, Old Mill of Guilford Creamy Grits, Walker Farms Butternut Squash, Shaved Brussels Sprouts & Hillsborough Company Chevre. The final entrée offers Tea Spiced Muscovy Duck Breast served with Acorn Spoon Bread, Confit Mushrooms along with Pear Watercress Emulsion & Smoked Honey.

Chocolate & Salted Caramel Hazelnut Torte and Chocolate Frangelico Ganache are the two desserts, while the passed items include Tomato & Celery Juice with Crawfish Salad, Pickled Salmon & Sour Cream on Rye, Crispy Oyster with Leek Country Ham Reduction & Artichoke Relish, and Cured Duck Foie Gras & Macerated Raisins, Brioche.

The Carolina Inn’s legacy began when the doors first opened on December 30, 1924. For the past 90 years, the Inn has created extraordinary memories for its guests and continues to provide delightful traditions and experiences for all visitors to the Inn. In celebration of The Carolina Inn’s 90th anniversary, local Chapel Hill artist Elaine O’Neil was commissioned to commemorate this occasion. Each stunning ornament is individually hand-painted on hand-blown glass highlighting the charm and uniqueness The Carolina Inn offers. The Carolina Inn’s rich architectural and interior design history is presented with photographs and rare artifacts from 1924 to the present in a specially designed display cabinet. A fascinating chronological social history begins just past the lobby and extends down the North and East Halls past the restaurant. A collection of 12 enlargements of historical postcard views of The Carolina Inn is located in the corridor between the restaurant and bar.
