The Carolina Inn Expands Three Special University Programs
With Introduction of a Dedicated Section of Its web site for University Guests
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (August 10, 2009) - The historic Carolina Inn will extend many new special benefits to University of North Carolina guests with the introduction of a dedicated section of its web site for the University Inn Club, Meeting Planners Club and The 1924 Club at a special August 11 event.
The University Inn Club boasts more than 400 current members and features a preferred $159 per night rate, available all year round on a last room available basis, except on graduation and football weekends. Members can now make reservations online which is direct billed to their department and doesn't require a credit card. A personal booking link or promo code is provided as part of the program's membership, making it more efficient for University staff and faculty to make reservations and avoid filling out and faxing authorization billing forms.
In addition, any visitor traveling for a University related purpose is exempt from the local 6 percent occupancy tax - a benefit that no other hotel in Chapel Hill can provide. The Inn also provides complimentary local transportation to its guests from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm within a five-mile radius.
The University's Meeting Planners Club provides an educational network for UNC staff and faculty to share ideas and resources about meeting and event planning. Membership is simple, free, and available only to University faculty and staff. A primary benefit is the knowledge gained at the quarterly educational sessions geared towards solving problems and challenges faced in the topsy-turvy world of event planning. Topics will include Menu Planning, Chef Demonstrations, Hotel Contracts 101 and Audio-Visual Basics, plus a Vendor Fair featuring local companies that provide event services.
The 1924 Club launched earlier this summer and enrolled more than 200 members to date by providing parents of UNC students with special offers to add value to their campus visits. Membership is simple, free, and available only to UNC parents. It features a 15 percent discount off the best available rate on any night with the exception of graduation weekend. The program boasts an attractive referral program for helping to sign up new parents by offering a $25 credit per referral that can applied to rooms, food and beverage or the gift store. The Club also offers a dedicated booking link provided upon confirmation of membership and priority reservation access for graduation, football and basketball weekends and other popular dates.

About the Carolina Inn
Recognized as one of America's "cultural resources worthy of preservation," The Carolina Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places with elite status as a AAA Four Diamond Award Hotel and Mobil Four Star Award-Winning Dining at the Carolina Crossroads Restaurant. From the day it opened in 1924, the 184-room Inn has played an important role in the life of the University of North Carolina and the Chapel Hill community. As one of only four hotels in North Carolina built before 1925 to remain in continuous operation, it has long been one of the most popular sites in North Carolina for special events, weddings, business meetings, and academic conferences with over 13,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space. In addition to having a rich cultural history, The Carolina Inn is architecturally significant, blending elements of antebellum Southern plantation houses with Georgian and neoclassical features often found in the Northeast. The original front of the building was modeled after the Potomac River front of Mt. Vernon. The Carolina Inn is one of more than 30 independent, upscale and luxury hotels, resorts and golf clubs in the United States managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts, the fourth largest independent hospitality management company in the country. www.carolinainn.com
