The Carolina Inn Hosts Special June 14 Moonshine Tasting with “Hill Billy” Wayne of Discovery Channel’s Hit Series “Moonshiners”

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (May 2014) – The Carolina Inn, by Destination Hotels & Resorts, and its award-winning Carolina Crossroads Restaurant will host a special Moonshine Tasting event on Saturday, June 14 from 5:00-7:00 pm.

Meet Moonshiner “Hilly Billy” Wayne Nix, cast member of Discovery Channel’s “Moonshiners,” during this special event. Sample a variety of North Carolina made moonshine and enjoy culinary delights from Executive Chef James Clark while conversing with “Hill Billy” Wayne and learning more about what’s happening on Season 3 of the hit series.

Please call 919-918-2735. http://www.carolinainn.com/moonshine-tasting-nc.php Born and bred in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina and settled in a community known as Hanging Dog lives a man who locals know as “Hill Billy.” Although moonshining is a way of life here, Wayne Nix isn’t your average hillbilly and has been making a living doing what has to be done. “To get there, you’ve got to have been there” has been his mantra. Working when he can to get work and doing what he can do “Growing up in the backwoods hasn’t always been easy, it’s not just hunting and fishing like y’all think...but you’ve got to love where you come from and look to where you’re going.”

The June 14 event commences with Passed Hors d’Oeuvres featuring Smoked Mountain Trout Croquet with Horseradish Aioli, Chilled Yellow Tomato Gazpacho with Pickled Shrimp, BBQ Beef Short Rib on a Biscuit with Pimento Cheese and Seared Pork Belly with Cornbread & Figs.

Station 1 showcases Garlic Butter Shrimp accompanied by Crab & Corn Succotash and Tomatoes & Okra. Station 2 includes Braised Pork Cheeks with Roasted Pepper Grits & Slaw.

The Passed Desserts are Warm Apple Doughnuts with Salted Carmel Sauce, Blueberry Tart, Mini Honey Pie with Lavender Crème Fraiche and Moonshine Strawberry Frappe.
