The Carolina Inn’s Crossroads Restaurant Receives OpenTable.com Accolade and Introduces Spring Menus
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (April 4, 2011) – The award-winning Carolina Crossroads Restaurant at The Carolina Inn – one of only four Forbes Four-Star restaurants in North Carolina and a AAA Four Diamond rated restaurant – was recently voted onto the OpenTable Diners’ Choice Lists for 2011.
Calculated based on OpenTable diner ratings, the lists are designed to inspire new diners to experience the restaurant as they will enjoy Executive Chef Jimmy Reale’s new spring menus for dinner, lunch, lounge, burgers and dessert.
“When pulling together all the spring menus, my goal was to provide light, fresh and flavorful dishes that I can access and use local products,” said Reale. “I also like to infuse Southern dishes with my Lebanese-Italian heritage and there are tasty selections throughout the different menus.”

The following dinner items highlight Jimmy’s seasonal pursuit of offering light and fresh selections, including four seafood dishes, and his “best-ever” version of shrimp and grits.
The signature Oven Roasted North Carolina Catfish is served with Shrimp Jambalaya, Carolina Gold Rice and Batter Crisp Onion.
The North Carolina Day Boat Catch features the previous day’s catch like flounder and sheep’s head with a Mediterranean twist and is served with Creamy Lobster Risotto, Asparagus, Broccoli Rabe, Grape Tomatoes, Sunchoke Broth, Crispy Kaitafi and Tarragon Oil.
The Roasted Chatham County Poulet Rouge Chicken is served with North Carolina Fingerling Sweet Potatoes, Sugar Snap Peas, Caramelized Cippolini Onions, Cauliflower, Rhubarb Jam and Roasted Chicken Jus.
This spring’s Pan Seared Shrimp is served with Old Mill of Guilford White Cheddar Grits, Benton’s Smoked Bacon, Cremini Mushrooms, Early Tomatoes and Creamy Lobster Velouté.
The Red Watercress Salad is served with Baby Beets, Strawberries, Valdeon Blue Cheese Brûlée and Walnut Vinaigrette.
The Lamb Kibbeh features Ground Lamb, Bulghur Wheat, Pine Nuts and Middle Eastern Spices, Labneh, Citrus Tabbouleh, Lemon Tahini Sauce and Za’atar Flat Bread.
The lounge menu features three of Jimmy’s favorites: Fried Green Tomato Sandwich served with Pimento Cheese, Arugula, Grilled Country Bread and Sweet Potato Fries; Fried Chicken and Waffles served with Southern Fried Chicken, Savory Herb Waffle, Apple Smoked Bacon and Spicy Molasses Maple Syrup; Half Rack Hickory Smoked Pork Ribs served with House-Made BBQ Sauce, Cole Slaw and Sweet Potato Fries.
The lunch menu offers a wide selection of Crossroads classics, entrées, sandwiches, soups and salads, including these three treats: Brussels Sprout Salad served with Duck Confit, Hillsborough Feta, Grilled Red Onions, Duck Fat Croutons and Citrus Vinaigrette; Marie’s Meatball Sub featuring Slow Braised Meatballs, Smoked Mozzarella, Basil Pesto, Baby Spinach and French Fries; and Ground Cane Creek Farm Pork Sliders, Date and Pistachio Compote, Blue Cheese and Sweet Potato Fries.
Guests can also choose among seven Famous Burger selections such as the Crossroads Classic, The Carolina Inn, BBQ Burger, Breakfast Burger, “Buffalo” Burger, Tar Heel Burger and The Carolina “Sinn.” The outrageous Carolina “Sinn” features a 10 ounce Kobe Beef Burger, Stuffed with Pan Seared Foie Gras, Topped with Sautéed Cippolini Onions and Morel Mushrooms in Veal Demi Glace, Shaved Oregon Black Truffles, Served with Hand Cut Fries, House-Made Ketchup and Truffle Aioli.
Pastry chef Suzanne Menius presents six savory desserts highlighted by Vanilla Panna Cotta in Raspberry-Pomegranate Soup and Fresh Fruit, Double Chocolate Terrine, Buttercrunch Toffee and Vanilla Sauce, Grapefruit-Ginger Sorbet with Almond Biscotti, Dark Chocolate Decadence Cake, Toasted Pecan Ice Cream and Chocolate Sauce, Lemon-Blueberry Crostada, Strawberry Ice Cream and Blueberry Sauce, and Trio of Ice Cream or Sorbet with Seasonal Berries and Shortbread Cookies.
